To: All persons who are members of the Okinawan Karate Association on the MAF site or any other persons who practice a form of karate that has its roots in Okinawa.

The Okinawan Karate Association is larger than this site. In the next year we will be building a larger web site, be hosting competitions, organize an annual meeting with award diner, etc. This is a serious organization for those who believe that Okinawan styles are more alike than are different and that many of them have the same lineages from the oldest Masters of Village-Ryu in Okinawa.

Those individuals who wish to become members of the larger organization should send $45.00 for hand made certificate in Kanji and English, life time membership, elegibility to compete in OKA tournaments, the sharing of style information, videos of kihon / kata and historical knowledge that would take a lifetime to learn. We are more than a unified group of practitioners, we are also educators of the wealth of information that exists for enthusasts of Okinawan culture and the origins of what we have come to call \"Karate\" in Okinawa.

All members will receive the e-OKA-gram on a monthly basis.

Join today by sending a brief resume of yourself, the name you wish printed on your certificate, your home address, your email address, telephone numbers and a check (credit cards are not yet accepted) to:

The Okinawan Karate Association / 233 Oaklawn Avenue / Stamford, CT / 06905

Soke Dave has recently had a new book published by Lulu publishers. The name of the book is \"Creating Kata\" by: Dave Nielsen and can be purchased at www.Lulu.com or at his web site www.usatka.com. You can get an early jump on it by ordering it now for the Holidays. It will be released to all major booksellers (amazon.com) at the end of January.

Creating Kata discusses how the traditional karate masters of the past formed their techniques into kata in order to remember them, hide them, and pass them on to their most trusted students. By using his research and building upon research of well known authors such as McCarthy, Abernethy, Kane, Wilder, and Burgar, Nielsen has been able to figure out how to put a kata together in the ancient way as done by the masters of the past.

This is the first in a 5 volume set that explores the way in which they did it and how you can do it today. This is not a sport karate book and has nothing to do with modern kata creation for sport competitions. You won\'t find any dancing to music summersault chrome numchucks of doom here. Just realistic traditional Kata creation. With an educational and strong foreword from Iain Abernethy, one of Britain\'s top martial artists and author of 6 books and several DVD projects, the reader can\'t go wrong.

Get your copy of \"Creating Kata\" today at www.Lulu.com or visit Soke Dave\'s page and click on the link their.

MEMBERS OF THE OKINAWAN KARATE ASSOCIATION:

We now have a certificate prototype for the association. You may see it at http://martialartsfriends.com/gallery/view/id_1166... here at MAF.

I am interested in adding the names of Masters who wish to be part of the Board of Trustees (to be listed down the right side of the certificate). Persons of Roku-Dan or above should come to my site: http://martialartsfriends.com/johngphd and let me know in a message:

1. Name
2. Okinawan Style
3. Rank
4. Brief summary of achievement in your style.

I will contact the 10 top Masters by rank and experience who make the cut for the Board of Trustees. Following the creation of this list, the certificates will be completed and ready for issuance. The OKA will certify your rank - this will be a prestigious affirmation of you, your style and your achievement in your particular Okinawan style. To verify your rank, you will have to send a copy of your highest certificate in your Okinawan style and a check for $42 for life membership.

A registry of rank will be kept by me as President and passed onward. All costs for chops, signature stamps, postages, etc. as well as printing, gold leafed forms etc. will come out of dues. We already have a site here on MAF but will look forward to creating a separate and well-designed site online (programmers for sites needed to make our pages). As we grow, we may have items, patches, t-shirts, etc. with the logo and name of our manteling organization for all styles of Okinawan karate.

NOTE: The OKA has NO AFFILIATION WITH THE OKF nor with Soke Glen Premru in any manner.

Sincerely and OSU,
Master John H Gagnon, IWKA Isshinryu karate Do
