MY SADDEST TIME WAS ...
when my mother died (August 15, 2003).
MY MOST CHALLENGING EXPERIENCE
trying to find someone who still teaches any of the old styles of Muay Thai which is quite difficult even in Thailand itself.
MY MOST REWARDING ACCOMPLISHMENTS
-FINALLY getting the chance to fly between New York and Bangkok via Thai Airways International (The bonuses of this major accomplishment included the fact that it was on a direct route or non-connecting flight with various TV shows, music, movies, and games to choose right from your very own personal small touchscreen TV !)
-graduating and getting certified in Thai massage from "Wat Po Traditional Medical School"
(โรงเรียนแพทย์แผนโปราณ)
-mastering and successfully applying the double knee technique
-meeting "Kru Lek" (ครูเล็ก), my Muay Chaiya instructor
THE REASON I AM INVOLVED IN MARTIAL ARTS
The beauty of it all. The ability to defend one's self and others... with style ! A martial art is dance with a purpose which is to eliminate a threat or potential threat to one's life or well-being as well as protecting the lives of others. In the case of Muay Thai, one of my other reasons is that of learning more things about Thai culture since I am Thai and all. It's a great way to get fit ! It's a fun and truly exciting way to get in shape IF AND ONLY IF one has the same high level of enthusiasm for the sport or physical activity that I do !
MARTIAL ARTS ORGANIZATIONS
-"THE CONSERVATION of ANCIENT THAI BOXING CHAIYARAT CLUB" (ชมรมอนุรักษ์พาหุยุทธไชยารัตน์) at Baanchangthai (บ้านช้างไทย)
MY MARTIAL ARTS
My primary style... the fighting art I'm best at and have spent most of my time as well as energy in... is MUAY THAI which includes the Chaiya style and much more. However, I do... as of this writing... have some knowledge of Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan (or Taijiquan) and more.
ABOUT ME
For those of you who're wondering what my name means, well... "SMART" means capable and "CHAI" means victory in Thai. Therefore, "SMARTCHAI" (2 syllables in English pronunciation, 3 OR 4 syllables in Thai pronunciation) is one with the capability... the "smarts", if you will... to achieve victory. It was the name of ancient Siam's fastest and most powerful seagoing battleship. I admire sincerity, but detest engaging in deceptive mind games. I have a deep interest in all Asian cultures especially (but not limited to) that of my own. In fact, I love all things Thai. I love Thailand. I love being Thai. I'm a big fan of the martial arts especially (but not limited to) Muay Thai which has been... still is... and always will be... one of my lifelong passions ever since I was about 8 years old or so. I also love to immerse myself in the realm of comic book superheroes during my freetime. It's not just the great artwork which fascinates me about them. My other reasons are that of their selflessness and unwavering lifelong dedication to fighting for everything that is right in the world and doing so... with style ! It's too bad our world doesn't have many people like that. On a sidenote, I love hiking through nature as well as hanging out at the beach on a warm and sunny day. I also love to swim preferably in a swimming pool. Want to know more ? E-mail me your questions and I'll get back to you.

Hello Smartchai,

Lately you may have noticed that you may have received e-mail messages advising that you have a private message on MAF.

When you log on the messages are gone. This is because the ADMIN and Staff folks have identified the sender as a Spammer and have deleted their profile and messages.

Most of these messages give you an off-site e-mail address to contact the spammer. Once they get to know you they give you a sad story where they ask you to send them money.

Because we value your privacy, the MAF folks will diligently continue to keep this a safe site for everyone.
