Grand Master Helio Gracie 1913-2009

On Tuesday morning Grand Master Helio Gracie was tanning at his ranch in Brazil, and on Thursday morning at 9:15 he passed away due to natural causes. His legacy will survive forever in all members of the Gracie Family, jiu-jitsu practitioners around the world, and all those who have benefited the revolution he began.

In his final years, the creator of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu often spoke of his satisfaction with his life’s work. He openly stated that he had accomplished everything he had set out to do, displaying his preparedness for the transition into the afterlife.

The Grand Master believed that such a transition should be seen as a positive step in ones spiritual evolution and requested that upon his passing, his life be celebrated.

To honor his request and his legacy, the Gracie Academy will host a celebratory gathering for Saturday, February 7, 2009. The event will begin at 5:00pm and, if need be, we will have an additional session at 6:30pm. Everyone’s invited.

To: All persons who are members of the Okinawan Karate Association on the MAF site or any other persons who practice a form of karate that has its roots in Okinawa.

The Okinawan Karate Association is larger than this site. In the next year we will be building a larger web site, be hosting competitions, organize an annual meeting with award diner, etc. This is a serious organization for those who believe that Okinawan styles are more alike than are different and that many of them have the same lineages from the oldest Masters of Village-Ryu in Okinawa.

Those individuals who wish to become members of the larger organization should send $45.00 for hand made certificate in Kanji and English, life time membership, elegibility to compete in OKA tournaments, the sharing of style information, videos of kihon / kata and historical knowledge that would take a lifetime to learn. We are more than a unified group of practitioners, we are also educators of the wealth of information that exists for enthusasts of Okinawan culture and the origins of what we have come to call \"Karate\" in Okinawa.

All members will receive the e-OKA-gram on a monthly basis.
